CAT-THARSIS *

This diorama was sculpted to reveal the obsession which artisans often feel about polymer clay.

The old woman loves to work with polymer clay.  Just as some old women have 65 cats and cannot pass up a stray; she is preoccupied with the clay and sculpts more and more cats while experimenting with different techniques.

She has a golden retriever who is feeling abandoned due to a lack of attention brought on by her new obsession.

The old woman often monitors a polymer clay newsgroup on the Internet and is known by the name Catwoman.

Since the newsgroup members have given the old woman so much support and have encouraged her in the development of her art, the golden retriever has decided to write the newsgroup and ask for help.

The golden retriever wants to be queen of her home once more.

Virtually the entire diorama was sculpted from Cernit and Premo polymer clays, including the old woman's clothes. Display case by Barren County Glass &Vince Rhea.

24" x 24" x 24"

*Catharsis - a purging of the emotions esp. through a work of art.

This diorama will still be a work in progress as long as it is in my home. It contains over 93 cats or catheads and I have six more planned.

  Diorama Lady
This doll-figure will contain a scene in her skirt when completed.  Except for wire for the form and a metal form for the skirt, she is made of Premo.  This type of doll has been made for at least 200 years in several different materials.  She is 16 inches tall. As you can see from the picture of her in front of the oven, she is too tall to be cured in one piece. I built a cardboard box around the door oven and put her on a revolving stand that would withstand the 275 degrees curing temperatures. I cured her for over five hours. I will build the mini scene in three parts and then set them in her dress. I could have easily made her three inches shorter or in two parts and saved myself a lot of trouble.
