We do not have any pets so
we try to make our yard so the birds, squirrels and rabbits will spend some
time. This spring, I have taken photos
of two bird nests and the baby birds and mothers. Click on the photo to see a larger picture.
I wonder if the mother
bird read the sign on the box. I store
some of my dried cones, pods, grasses for craftwork on some shelves on our
deck. I have three shelves on the deck. She had ripped open a bag of Spanish moss
that we had picked up on a trip. Mother
bird chose the spot next to this box marked “Bird Nest Material.” She came out of the nest and did a happy
dance and lots of singing. My husband
thought that her babies must not have hatched or she was upset about
something. But I said, “NO! That’s a happy dance! I bet they hatched.”
Sure enough, four baby birds have
hatched. They are so tiny!
In just two days, we can see the babies growing fast.
Three open mouths to feed. Mother bird is so busy. Papa shows up to help, too.
This is another bird nest
in our apple tree. Mother bird is
comfortable around me.
This mother bird has decorated her nest with
sweet gum balls and pieces of Christmas tree tinsel. I have been checking their progress
daily.
Mother bird watching me as I take pictures of the nest.
Three eggs, but only two hatched.
Still only two baby birds.
Growing, growing,
and growing.
