Diorama Lady
This doll-figure will contain a scene in her skirt when completed.
Except for wire for the form and a metal form for the skirt, she is made of
Premo. This type of doll has been made for at least 200 years in several
different materials. She is 16 inches tall. As you can see from the
picture of her in front of the oven, she is too tall to be cured in one piece.
I built a cardboard box around the door oven and put her on a revolving stand
that would withstand the 275 degrees curing temperatures. I cured her for over
five hours. I will build the mini scene in three parts and then set them in her
dress. I could have easily made her three inches shorter or in two parts and
saved myself a lot of trouble.
Lil' Cookie ......................Lil'Fireweed
These were originally made for children to keep their
hands warm. They had heat activated packets which were stored in the pockets in
the sides of doll. They were a hit with nursing homes to keep cold feet warm
instead. The paint on the gingerbread cookie dolls were scented so when they
were heated by the packet, they smelled of gingerbread.
Fabric dolls made from old textiles and laces.
